This year has been a rollercoaster especially with the pandemic rolling up on us. Not only have we been forced to change our daily lifestyles and adopt new ones but some major events have also been affected. As Christmas approaches, people are no longer as enthusiastic about this holiday as compared to the preceding years.

Usually, we look forward to unending party invites, unlimited socialization without forgetting the array of festive foods and gift giving. Even though we can no longer meet up and socialize like other years, we can still keep the festive spirit alive and have some fun. Here is how:

Put up decorations

What’s a festive season without proper decorations? This is especially necessary when you have children. You don’t want them missing out on this time of the year. Get them a Christmas tree and decorate it together as a family. You can also put gifts under the tree to keep their spirits up and their curiosity piqued as they look forward to unwrapping them on Christmas Day.

Shop together

If there is one thing people look forward to during big holidays is food. The holiday season is all about delicacies and taking lots of it. Bearing that in mind, take your whole family for shopping and let them choose some of their favourite items and food stuffs which they look can indulge in this Christmas. While at it, they can also pick cute outfits for those family portraits.

Plan family activities

It is easy to dampen the Christmas spirit when everyone is busy in their own world. This season, write up some fun activities that can keep your family glued together. These can range from playing games together, organizing Karaoke, baking cakes and cookies together or simply watching family movies together. The goal is to keep your household entertained as a single unit, which is what the festive season is all about.

Organize family staycations

While your family and friends may feel bummed for being unable to travel to the Coast for the full on vacation experience, a staycation could work as an alternative. You won’t have to leave town or worry about spending a lot of money on travel or destination tours. You can take one weekend out and visit your favourite hotel in town and enjoy the saunas and massage packages that come with them. It may not be the vacation of their dreams but it may do this season.

Make donations

The festive season is all about giving and sharing what we have, you can still brighten someone’s day by donating food or other items you don’t use. You can also ask your household members to donate clothes, toys and books they no longer use while you top it up with food to help those in need this season. It may not seem like much but it will be for a noble course and you will teach your children kindness and the true meaning of Christmas while at it.

Tip: Having a list of Christmas jams playing softly in the house may also help lift your mood as a family and act as a reminder that the festive season is here.
