As the National secondary school games begin tomorrow in Nakuru, participating teams are expected to arrive today.

The main venue will be Nakuru High School, which is expected to host all ball games, save for hockey.

Other venues are Menengai and Afraha High Schools, which will host football, hockey and basketball as well as several in-door games.

All swimming championships will be held at Moi High School, Kabarak.

There will be a referees' clinic for all disciplines today and tomorrow, depending on each discipline.

Referees for ball games are expected to have their meet today, while swimming marshals and indoor games will meet tomorrow.

Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Secretary General David Ngugi said they are ready for the games and it's all systems go.

"We have prepared well for the games. Teams are expected to arrive today. We are delighted to have the games after two-year break due to Covid-19 pandemic," he said.

Teams from Nakuru and neighbouring counties had stepped up their training sessions, with former Rift Valley rugby Sevens champions Menengai being a perfect example.

"We are in a perfect form ahead of the games and the boys are training well. We expect to do better than our performance at the regional championships," Menengai head coach Evans Adenya said.

The hosting region will be represented by four teams in rugby; champions Nanyuki, Menengai, Ngong Township and Kabianga High Schools.

Kabarnet High School head coach Aswan Savata said they are going out for another title after they dethroned former national champions St Anthony's Kitale in the Rift Valley football final.

"This is another chance to exhibit our title hopes at the national championships as we hope to feature in the East African Games," he said.
