It needn't all be 'rabbit food' and punishing diets. A lot of what's good for us is actually very enjoyable

1. Foods rich in zinc

Red meat, oysters and sunflower seeds are all rich sources of zinc.

Zinc is an essential mineral for great skin as it helps to manage oil production. Acne and pimples can often be the result of a zinc deficiency.

2. Eggs

The yolk in particular is a good source of vitamin E. Vitamin E has free radical fighting properties which are known to help slow down the signs of aging and keep wrinkles at bay.

3. Peppers

A rich source of vitamin C. In addition to the collagen synthesising properties, vitamin C has also been shown to help counter the effects of sun exposure, improving skin texture and reducing wrinkles.

4. Brassica family of veg (broccoli, cauliflower, kale)

Weak brittle nails are a sign that your liver needs a little love. This group of veg supports healthy liver function, consuming adequate amounts will boost functioning and strengthen nails.

5. Oily fish (salmon/mackerel)

Fats from whole foods such as fish, contain essential fatty acids which are crucial to the production of the natural oil barrier of the skin. This can help remedy dry and inflamed skin.

6. Biotin containing foods (bananas, brown rice, eggs)

Biotin is one of the B-vitamins which is one of the main constituents of hair, skin and nail cells. Inadequate amounts in the diet can cause itchy scaly skin and hair loss.

7. Citrus fruit

Vitamin C is essential for collagen synthesis. Collagen is part of the connective tissue supporting firmness, elasticity and suppleness of the skin.

8. Amp up your greens

Dark circles under the eyes and dull skin can be the result of strain on the liver and kidneys, this can be from over-consumption of processed food.
