Two baby names to avoid if you want your little one to have a unique name

Every child is unique - but some baby names are more unique than others, and if you want your dazzling little darling to immediately stand out from the crowd, their name is a good start.

'Virtue in rarity', as academics call it, is a naming approach beloved by modern parents.

It basically means mums and dads are opting for more unusual names with different spellings.

But a look at any baby name chart will show there are still some more traditional favourites which are consistent in their popularity.

And if you are after something a little unique for your child, then there are two names you should in particular, Kidspot reports.

Cross 'Oliver' off your list

Yes, trusty 'Oliver' has been riding high in the baby name charts for quite some time now, meaning there'll be classrooms over the UK and US with more than one pupil with this name.

In the UK, the name is much more popular, having been comfortably floating around the top 100 since the year 2000.

That's a long old time and a lot of Olivers.

And Olivia too

Much like its male counterpart, Olivia has proven to be enduringly popular, having been dwelling at the top of baby name charts for years now.

The female version of 'Oliver' is just as popular

This year, interestingly, Olivia actually came in as the third most popular on the Nameberry site, with Isla taking second place.

But it's still in the top three, meaning there are still plenty of parents plumping for Olivia.

Confused? You could always just ignore all the name fads and just do you.
