Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) has no cure. There are days when the symptoms will flare up and other times when you’ll live your life normally.

That means you have to find ways to manage the symptoms and work with your doctor to make life easier for you.

Managing PCOS is a combination of medications and lifestyle changes. For the most part, the things you eat and do directly affect your quality of life while dealing with this condition. The advantage of that is that you have control, just as long as your consistency is on track.

There are a variety of natural ways to manage all those symptoms. Here are a few.

Ditch the unhealthy foods

Your eating habits have to change significantly because this is one of the crucial highlights of managing the condition.

You shouldn’t consume the same amount of sugar, unhealthy carbs and other foods that will cause weight gain, disrupt your hormones and increase your risk of developing health complications associated with PCOS.

You should start looking into healthy alternatives to the meals you loved such as healthy carbs, whole grain foods and natural sugars in place of refined sugars. This is also a great time to get familiar with healthy recipes.

Add some essential nutritional ingredients like cinnamon, fatty fish and leafy greens which are known to be beneficial.

All these will work to help you reach your goal weight and prevent health problems.

Be strict with mealtimes

Mealtimes are an important part when it comes to managing the symptoms. Research has shown that women who consume most of their daily calories in the morning have shown signs of a more balanced insulin and testosterone level in their system.

PCOS is all about an imbalance of these hormones which is exactly what leads to fertility problems, obesity and other problems. Eating at the right time and avoiding excess calories at night will help manage the condition.

Start working out

Even though most gyms are closed because of the pandemic, it shouldn’t stop you from working out. The new trend is home workouts and you should hop on that bandwagon too.

The only thing you need to be weary of is the types of workouts you’re doing. You should follow specific workout routines for women living with PCOS which you can find through a simple YouTube or Google search.

Workouts are good for digestion and you’ll be able to lose weight faster and feel good about yourself too which is a plus.

Supplements

These are important because they boost your health but not all of them work for everyone living with PCOS.

You first have to consult your doctor before buying supplements because an excess of nutrients is also dangerous.

Some of the supplements to have are Omega-3 pills which are good for your physical and mental health, vitamin D and Magnesium to regulate insulin levels and iron which help prevent anemia.

Have a consistent sleep schedule

Living with PCOS means that you’ll feel fatigued from time to time. This is as a result of nutrient deficiencies and lack of enough sleep.

You should always try and meet your daily nutritional needs and combine that with a proper sleep schedule. Go to bed at certain times so that you don’t wake up feeling stressed and tired the next day.

An extra tip is to embrace your new lifestyle and have a more positive attitude towards life. That’s a huge part of managing the condition. You can learn simple relaxation techniques like meditation, aromatherapy and the daily habit of mindfulness and gratitude so that the bad days don’t hit you too hard.
