Portion distortion refers to the increasingly large portion sizes people regard as normal. Data reveals that over the past 40 years, portion sizes have grown dramatically, sometimes doubling or even tripling in size.
This has had a knock-on effect on our perception of what a normal plate of food is, causing us to eat more and get larger as a species.

This problems is exacerbated by growing serving sizes in restaurants and larger plate sizes in our homes.
Learning to discern what a portion size should be can e difficult in our new reality but it can go a long way to shaving off excess calories from daily diet.
Here are a few simple tricks:
Eat off smaller plates Make sure a third of your plate is full of vegetables Drink a glass of water before each meal Measure your food; you can use a weighing scale or cup sizes and tablespoons Learn what a serving size actually looks like
