Ever felt drowsy or sleepy when you are supposed to be beating some work deadlines? Your meal could be the culprit behind this feeling.  No boss needs a sleepy head for a junior for we all know that sleep is a great enemy of productivity.

It also gets embarrassing in case your colleagues catch you sleeping when you aren’t supposed to be sleeping. You will become the laughing stock of the office or even worse, tongues will start wagging behind your back and word will be that you are incompetent.

Here are some of the foods that could be making you feel sleepy in your place of work:

 Milk and other dairy products

 Dairy products

Dairy products are rich in tryptophan. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid which helps produce serotonin. Serotonin can be converted to melatonin which is a very good sleep inducer. Serotonin is also believed to give feelings of well-being which means comfort.

Oatmeal

 Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a healthy breakfast option. But just like dairy products, oatmeal contains melatonin an amino acid that also induces sleep.

Foods rich in carbohydrates are also notorious sleep inducers. They produce insulin and high levels of insulin in your body can make you feel sleepy.

Bananas

 Bananas

Bananas are rich in magnesium and have a lot of benefits to the body. However, the same magnesium can lead you to fall asleep.

Honey

 Honey

Honey contains glucose which is likely to cause the brain to shut down orexin a chemical that is responsible for keeping you alert.
