Little known facts about Caroline Wanjiru Karugu, the newly nominated Nyeri County Deputy Governor

 Nyeri County Governor Kahiga Mutai has nominated Caroline Wanjiru Karugu as the county’s deputy governor. Her name was presented to the County Assembly for vetting on Thursday.

 The deputy governor’s position has been void since November 2017 when Kahiga Mutahi, former deputy governor, took up the position of governor after the demise of the then county boss, Wahome Gakuru.

Ms. Karugu is an Independent Non -Executive Director at the Geothermal Development Company where she was appointed as a member by President Uhuru Kenyatta. She also chairs the Board Technical Committee.

She holds a Bachelors of Commerce Double Major Degree in (Business Administration and Marketing) from Daystar University and a Global Executive MBA (Strategy) from USIU- A in partnership with the Frankfurt School of Finance in Germany.

Ms. Karugu is also the Chief Executive Officer of Jabali Microserve Ltd, a commercial subsidiary of Jitegemee Trust, an organization dealing with social investments. She has over 10 years’ experience in regional capital markets and financial services industry.

Caroline has held various leadership positions in leading organizations including Britam and Nairobi Stocks Exchange.

In 2010, she won the prestigious World Young Credit Union Professionals (WYCUP) Award sponsored by the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) in the United States. The award is given to the top five individuals who have made a significant impact to their credit union systems.

Her nomination for deputy governor follows the Supreme Court's March 9 directive that Governors lacking deputies to appoint them within 60 days.

Should 39-year-old Caroline sail through the vetting process, she becomes the first female deputy governor in the county.
