Two MPs have lauded the Government for creating new administrative units across the country.
Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali and Emmanuel Wangwe of Navakholo said the new units would enhance services.
According to a Kenya Gazette notice, Navakholo will have three new divisions, seven new locations, and 13 sub-locations.
In Mumias East, two new divisions and one sub-location have been created. "Navakholo is a beneficiary.
This will create opportunities for locals and also ensure services are delivered easily," he said. Washiali shared the sentiments, saying the new units would shorten the distance Kenyans travel in search of government services.
"This will also boost security in these areas," said Washiali. The Ogiek community in Mt Elgon also benefited after Chepkitale, which is dominated by the community, was elevated to a location.
The community has for long accused the government of neglecting its members. They said they have to walk long distances to get government services.
Insecurity has also been a major challenge as there is no police camp in the area. Wangwe said security agencies should get enough vehicles to enable them play their role effectively.
