How to freeze bread and still maintain freshness

The government is urging us to stay at home and only go out for essentials like buying food. This means that many of us are trying to buy food that will last a few days so that we minimize the number of times we go outside.

You will have noticed that it’s very hard to keep bread fresh even when you store it in the refrigerator. But with a few tips you can keep your bread for longer and still have it fresh when you want to eat it.

1. Separate into meal-size portions

Before you store your bread, divide it into meal-sized portions so that when you do want to eat it, you don’t have to remove the whole loaf from the freezer and then put it back.

2. Wrap it up

Use cling film to wrap the meal-sized portions and then put these into reusable plastic bags. Try to remove as much air out of the bags as possible.

3. Label it

It’s important to label each bread parcel before storing it. Note down the type of bread and the date you froze it.

4. Freeze it

Place your bread parcels in the freezer. While you can keep your bread frozen for up to eight months, according to Good Housekeeping, it’s recommended that you eat it within the first two months.

One of the best things about frozen bread is that when you do want to eat it, all you need to do is remove the bread from the freezer and toast it. Unlike other frozen foods, you don’t need to wait for it to thaw it.
