Flaxseeds are small golden-brown seeds which are rich in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids and help with a variety of ailments.
They can be mixed with water and drank or added to a variety of foods such as cereals, yoghurt, sprinkled, salads, stews and baked foods.
Flaxseeds are commonly used to help with digestive issues and can be taken to relieve IBS, ulcers and gastritis. They are also a natural remedy for constipation, although they should be taken with lots of water.
Flaxseeds help lower cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar and can reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes and fight against various cancers.
It is preferable to consume ground flax as whole may pass through your system undigested. Grind whole flaxseed in a mortar or pestle, in a blender or in a salt or pepper grinder.
The recommended daily dose is two teaspoons.
