A family in Kiambu County is in mourning after two young brothers were killed by unknown assailants in Nairobi's Kamulu area.

Johnson Karuga, 26, and Kevin Kimani,24, met their gruesome deaths after a night out at a popular pub in Kamulu where they had visited to watch an English Premier League match.

According to family members, the two Limuru natives had reconnected at the pub after Kimani, a mitumba seller in Nairobi, visited his sibling - a hardware dealer - in Kamulu.

According to family spokesman Karuga Ngigi, the two had an altercation with pub security who allegedly mobilized boda boda riders around the area to confront the two.

"We have been informed that it is after an altercation that the security contacted boda boda operators who trailed Karuga and Kevin and beat them senselessly a few meters from the club. Unfortunately, the two boys succumbed to the injuries," said Ngigi.

Police from nearby Kamulu Police Station were notified of the incident and ferried the two bodies to City Mortuary.

At their Ndeiya home, family members tried calling the two for several days and became worried after friends of Kimani contacted them inquiring if he arrived home. Worried, two family members were consequently dispatched to Kamulu to inquire as to their whereabouts.

At Kamulu, the family representatives were informed that two unidentified bodies were picked up by police and taken to the City Mortuary. There, the distraught kin identified the bodies as that of the two brothers.

"We were tongue-tied after we viewed the bodies. We have not come to terms with these brutal murders. The two were promising young men with a bright future. This is a double tragedy," said Ngigi.

Ngigi added that the family is undergoing a traumatizing period and has accrued huge bills as they await postmortem ahead of the brothers' burial.

According to a source privy to the investigation but not allowed to talk to the press, police have taken up the matter and are following up on critical leads.

No arrests had been made so far.
