While it has yet to be proven that detox drinks can help rid the body of harmful toxins and long term weight loss, Medical News Today says that they can help add nutrients and fibre to one's diet. 

Detox drinks are often made from fruits and raw vegetables meaning that they are full of vitamins and minerals that you might not be getting from your regular diet. Incorporating detox drinks in your regular diet will give you the nutrition that you need. 

The best part about these healthy drinks is that you can easily prepare them at home. Read on for some easy recipes.

Honey lemon ginger tea

This tea is commonly taken to treat sore throats and relieve cold and flu symptoms. 

In addition to that, WebMD reports that ginger helps with stomach upset, nausea and painful periods. Honey is a natural sweetener and contains antioxidants.

To make this tea, boil a piece of grated raw ginger root, then strain and add the juice of one Iemon with a tablespoon addition of honey.

This refreshing drink is perfect for the hot days. You'll need a glass of coconut water, some fresh lemon juice and mint. The mint will add flavour to the drink and make it even more refreshing.

To prepare this, use a sharp knife and carefully peel the rind from the aloe vera plant leaves and discard the rind. You're left with clear aloe vera gel which you blend with pomegranate juice, and chopped beetroot. This drink of Indian origin isn't complete without a dash of black pepper. Sweet and tangy is what to expect.

Mint and cucumbers have soothing effects to the body. Infact, mint helps the movement of bile during digestion, which hastens digestion. To prepare this, you'll require one cucumber, 8-10 mint leaves, two tablespoons of lemon juice, and ice cubes. Whiz this all up in a blender and get a refreshing detox drink.

This detox drink is packed with carotenoids and vitamin C. Juice the orange and carrot separately then pour the juice in a blender and add turmeric and ginger. For 30 seconds, blend it together and then squeeze half lemon in. Strain and serve.
