Butter crunch lettuce is a cross breed of butter crunch (I will write about it soon) and romaine lettuce.
This lettuce type grows upright with leaves having little contact with soil. It has a loose head of large leaves and even green colour with a tinge of red. It has a bitter-sweet smell and flavour.
Butter crunch lettuce is a cool-weather crop with a handful of health benefits. It is a good source of fibre, iron, vitamins K & A, and folate. It has a high water content which makes it a great vegetable for dieting.
Vitamin K is essential for bone health, boosts the immune system and helps regulate blood pressure and control anxiety.
This lettuce also contains fat, proteins, carbohydrates, sugar and dietary fibre and minerals like zinc, calcium, sodium, magnesium, phosphorous, and potassium.
It has a slightly higher price tag unlike ice burg lettuce. Sh100 will get you a small head -- just about enough for one meal. Find them in major vegetable markets and specific supermarkets in Nairobi.
