The odd places women search for husbands

Relationships

A popular dictum posits that hell knoweth no fury like that of a woman irked; neither do the oldest tricks have anything compared to what a woman desperate for a husband would do.

When the society acts like a jury and age sets in with gusto, when the biological clock begins to tick a tad bit too fast and one becomes tired of playing bridesmaid in other people's wedding-then a woman would seraph for the craziest of places fora man who will walk her down the aisle; after all, the end justifies the means.

From the sophisticated type to the plain Jane next door, a woman desperate for a husband has drawn the line between pursuit for romance and need for a husband. The latter precedes everything else including her feminine ego, class, level of education et al'-she is ready to do anything to get a hubby.

Here are those crazy paces women search for husbands.

Church

See that single sister who recently joined the congregation and in after two Sundays has sang her way as the leader of praise and worship? Good-it is called strategy, very vital in the art of conquest.

She dresses neatly and decently, always wears a warm smile and has crammed the scriptures like her life depends on it-well, it does.

Single and married brothers alike cannot stop but ogle at her while she is on the pulpit belting out song after song-having her is their innermost payer item that only their souls decipher but the or lips cannot utter.

A few months on, sister, the pastor announces an upcoming union between Sister *Jane and brother *Ochola.

Yes, the house of the lord as the scripture says is open for all and sundry-including women hunting for husbands because the common notion is that church going men or male believers are husband material because they follow God's teaching on what a husband ought to be.

Obituaries

See that lady who is always reading the papers? Ever noticed her keen interest on back pages yet you know sports news ain't her thing? She is probably searching for a soul-mate from the obituaries-Yes you read me right.

*Anne Nyambura was fast approaching forty, she was a single mother of a ten year old boy whose dead beat father she had not seen or heard from in years. Pressure from family and friends was not helping matters either; she knew she had to find a man and find him fast.

Then one day, a neighbour lost a child and his obituary was placed in one of the dailies. While Nyambura was reading through, another obituary next to it caught her attention.

A 45 year old woman had lost her battle to cancer; she was the wife of a civil engineer and had left behind two children. Family and friends were meeting at a joint in town for the two days of the weekend to contribute and arrange for the burial.

"I had searched for a husband for a long time and something struck me that this is an opportunity I would be damned to waste," she said.

She narrates that she attended both meetings and introduced herself as the close friend of the deceased; she showed concern and no none in their widest guess could have known she was a stranger.

"I even attended the funeral and ensured I was always near him to pass in a few kind words of comfort, I got his number,"

Nyambura said that two weeks after the burial, she called him "just to check on him and the teenage kids, he then invited me for coffee a month later,"

It started as a friendship and culminated into a relationship an d later marriage.

"He accepted my son whom truly needed a father figure and his two teenagers have grown fond of me too,"

When she shared her story, lots of women have taken the dare and are now looking for bereaved husbands to "console."

While Nyambura and her ilk read obituaries, other search at funerals. These kind attend all the funerals they can of bereaved husbands where they offer comfort and register their presence in the hope of bagging the widower or any other man who will show them attention at the funeral

Regular pubs

Forget the high end joints that read affluence, where men go to purvey extravagance and women who ape the Kardashian throng.

The women hunters know that laid back and mature men are found in those regular pubs the estates or in town.

Here, you find a man who over his beer and through the intoxication of the slow rhumba music in the background is truly toying with the idea of settling down. These are men looking for simple and independent women who are wifely.

The hunters know this only too well and go there dressed decently but classy.

Premier league is about to kick off, these ladies know a thing or two about football and these help start a conversation in these regular spot bars.

Football Matches

Talking of football, another place women search for husbands is in football matches. Not all those die hard Ingwe and Kogallo female fans are in for the love of the game. Quite frankly, half of them do not know what an offside is; they are either there for the razzmatazz while a good number are searching for their better halves.

They religiously attend every match regardless of where it is held, they even join branches and associations-we all know football is a man's game and the majority of fan are the Y-Chromosome which consequently mean that these mamas are likely to get the hooked up in the midst of the cheering.

We have examples of ladies who met their partners in football matches. A Gor Mahia female fan happened to have bagged the club's biggest and enthusiast and most popular fan while former Kogallo Deputy Secretary General also met her hubby also a diehard fan during a match.
