Girls, here is how to be a super ageless career woman

Lady Speak

The other day, I got a curiosity-arousing Facebook friend request. You know that request with such an attractive profile picture, when you receive it, you accept pronto.

So this potential friend had a profile picture with two dashingly beautiful and youthful women. They looked 20. The name of this friend was those trendy and confusing names like 'Wamby a gal Baby,' you can barely tell who these angelic people are.

So first I accepted the request then went ahead and asked her to kindly remind me who she was.

"Hey Maureen, kwani you have forgotten me, I am Wambo, your roomie from high school. I was actually your deckermate. But when I was in Fourth Form you were a mono...". I was flabbergasted.

"What?? Wambo, the one people used to call Kabady. You look gorgeous girlfriend, my goodness with your sister...."

"Thanks for the complements roomie. And by the way that girl is my daughter, she is in campus. I got her immediately after I cleared high school. BTW I am celebrating my 40th birthday. God is good..."

"What? 40??You two look like sisters. What's the secret...?"

The Kenyan in me peeped through her Facebook profile and I was amazed at how she had transformed from that high school 'kabady' to this youthful looking and well-toned woman.

And it's not just my friend Wambo who have refused to age. There are more Wambos around today, women who are in their 40s and 50s are well accomplished, feisty, driven and glamorous and look amazingly good for their age.

These age-defying women are lean, beautiful and youthful and have been christened perennials. But what is their secret to looking ageless? Here are some gems from Wambo:

Fitness freak: If you want to cheat age, you must embrace a consistent workout programme.

"I swim 10 laps every morning and workout every evening," Wambo tells me. Our good old uncle Moody Awori who has hit 80 also swears by a serious workout schedule."

Healthy diet: If you want to look 'Halle Berry good' then you have to ditch all those sugary, fatty and tasty treats you are obsessed with. "To cut that weight that earned me terrible names in high school, I said bye to chapos, cakes, chomas. My diet is now more of fresh smoothies, veggies and ndumas and kidogo white meat ...," Wambo schools me.

Glam Life: There comes a time when a woman is so stable she can afford to pamper herself.

"I never miss my weekly facials, manicures and massages come rain come shine," Wambo tells me.

Fun filled life: Don't age and retire. Make it a habit to be part of a adventure filled activity that gives you an adrenaline rush. Think hiking, biking, mountain climbing...

Connect with your Spiritual side: Research has shown that simple practices like meditation and yoga help to rejuvenate your body, mind and soul.

Stress free life: Ask any expert and they will tell you the secret to a long healthy life is living in bliss. So ditch all those toxic friends that give you ulcers.
