Taita Taveta MCA charged with touching a woman's breasts

Achieving Woman

A Member of the Taita-Taveta County Assembly (MCA) was on Thursday charged with indecent assault by, allegedly, touching a woman's breasts.

The Marungu Ward Representative Paul Waweru Kang'ethe however denied the charge before the Voi Senior Principal Magistrate Ellen Nderitu who released him on a bond of Sh 300,000 bond or cash bail of Sh100,000 and a surety of a similar amount.

Kang'ethe of TNA was represented by a Nairobi based lawyer a Mr Osoro. The accused presented himself after the court issued a warrant of arrest. "There is no need to arrest my client because he had no intention of running away," the lawyer told the court.

Senior Prosecuting Counsel in the Office of Director of Public Prosecution Gioche Kibui told the court that the prosecution had sought a warrant of arrest after the suspect had failed to appear in Court to answer the charges against him.

Mr Osoro appealed to the court to give his client bail pending the hearing of the case.

The accused was charged that on March 17 this year in the outskirts of Voi town, he indecently assaulted a woman by touching her breasts.

Kang'ethe also faced an alternative charge of creating disturbance in a manner that might cause a breach of public peace.

The accused denied both counts and was given a bond of Sh 300,000 or an alternative cash bail of Sh 100,000 and a surety of a similar amount.

The case will be mentioned on June, 26 and hearing will be fixed at a later date.
