Covid-19: 322 recover as 77 test positive in last 24 hours

Kenya has so far administered 3,886,630 vaccines across the country, the Ministry of Health has announced.

Of these, the total first doses were 2,995,890 while the second doses were 930,740.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is 31.5 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 3.4 per cent as the government works towards vaccinating 27,246, 033.

Kenya also recorded 77 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 2,415 raising the country's caseload to 250,191.

In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 3.2 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,575,024.

Out of the new patients, 42 are male, whereas 35 are female, with the youngest carrier being a one-year-old child, and the oldest aged 98.

Of the fresh cases, seven are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.


In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi leads with 18 cases, Meru14, Nakuru 12, Machakos 5, Mombasa and Siaya 4 cases each, Kiambu 3, Kirinyaga, Nandi and Turkana 2 cases each, Uasin Gishu, West Pokot, Garissa, Nyandarua, Kakamega, Kericho, Bungoma, Embu and Baringo one case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 5,141 after one patient succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 242,857 after 322 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 287 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 35 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 196,402 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 46,455 are from various hospitals countrywide.

A total of 914 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 1,976 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Fifty-six (56) patients are in the ICU, 31 of whom are on ventilatory support and 23 on supplemental oxygen. Two patients are on observation.

Another 291 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 282 of them in general wards and nine in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
