A seven-month-old infant is among 747 people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours from 5,145 samples taken. Today's positivity rate is at 14.5 per cent, a double-digit positivity rate that has been sustained for the last 2 weeks.

The country's Covid-19 caseload now stands at 120,910 out of 1,414,865 tests done. Among the new cases is a centenarian, a 101-year old person.

The number of sick patients continue to increase, 889 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide being the highest number of hospital admissions recorded this year.

121 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 32 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 86 on supplemental oxygen. 3 patients are on observation. Another 59 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 41 of them in the general wards. 18 patients are in the High Dependency Unit.

2,545 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

The Ministry of Health also confirmed 17 deaths. 7 of the deaths recorded on Saturday have occurred in the last 48 hours while 10 are late death reports from facility records audits that have occurred on diverse dates. The number of fatalities now stands at 2,011.

114 patients have recovered from the disease, 74 from the Home-Based Care and Isolation Care, and 40 from various health facilities. Total recoveries now stand at 89,622.

Addressing concerns over the ministry’s vaccination deployment plan targeting frontline workers following uproar over the government’s move to offer jabs to all diplomats, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the exercise was not being abused.

The first phase, said CS Kagwe, targets frontline workers, who include health care workers, teachers, and support staff in learning institutions, those serving in security and others in all ports of entry.

“The vaccination plan remains intact and targets all persons resident in Kenya including those serving in the diplomatic corps. All who qualify for vaccination in the ongoing first phase are encouraged to turn up for vaccination in designated vaccination facilities across the country," read a statement from the Cabinet Secretary.
