Mumias, Kenya - MPs from western Kenya have challenged CORD to state its stand on the cases facing Deputy President William Ruto and Journalist Joshua Sang at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The legislators said the leadership of the coalition especially those allied to Orange Democratic Party (ODM) should intervene and tell ICC the truth about the 2007/8 post-election violence.

The MPs were Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), Bernard Shinali (Ikolomani), Malulu Injendi (Malava) and Benjamin Washiali (Mumias East).

“Leaders who were in ODM are well placed to tell ICC that Mr. Ruto and Mr. Sang are innocent people who should be vindicated,” said Mr. Wangwe.

The leaders said ODM was well placed to inform the court that Kenyans spontaneously went to the streets to protest what they believed was a stolen election and no violence had been planned.

“It is upon leaders allied to ODM to come out and speak about what they know and what they saw because they understand well what happened,” said Mr. Wangwe.

The MPs said they were in solidarity with their colleagues in other parts of the country in praying for the cases facing the Deputy President and the journalist to collapse.

“Our brothers are innocent and we are optimistic that the cases facing them will soon collapse because there is no evidence linking them over the 2008 post-election violence,” said Mr. Washiali.

Speaking at St. Mathews Munganga ACK, Mumias, in Kakamega County during a Sunday sermon attended by Deputy President William Ruto, the leaders urged ICC prosecutor and the judges to act professionally.

In a move to ensuring essential health services were provided to the people, Ruto said the Government’s plan to establish two referral hospitals of level four and five in every county was being implemented.

“In this Kakamega County for example, Sh725million has been allocated to Kakamega hospital and another Sh380million has been allocated to Malava hospital to upgrade them and provide ICU, dialysis, radiology facilities among others,” said Ruto.

He said the water shortage being experienced in the County would be a thing of the past once the completion work on the Sh1.8billion Mumias water project was completed.
