Woman's baby shower 'hijacked' by her best friend after emotional announcement

Baby showers are a special occasion for any parent, one that you get to celebrate with all of your closest friends and family.

But unfortunately for one woman, her big day was ruined by her closest friend.

The 28-year-old mum-to-be explained that she is carrying her first child after conceiving on her own using a sperm donor.

Her friend, on the other hand, whom she named 'Chloe', has been trying to fall pregnant since she got married three years ago, with no luck.

So when the woman announced her pregnancy to her friend she was very careful to respect her struggles.

The woman wrote: "She was one of the first people I told and told her I had no expectations of her being there for me, as I know it could be hard.

"She told me no, she wanted to support me and be in my corner. I told her if she needed to walk away at any point, I’d understand."

One of the woman's friends threw her a virtual baby shower via Zoom whilst everyone else played games, and everything was going well.

"When suddenly Chloe gets really emotional and says she has something to say" she wrote.

"She then announces that part of her gift to me is that my daughter will have a playmate. She then said that she was pregnant. After that, the entire shower became about her.

"People fussing over her, asking questions and being overall excited. I was too and congratulated her but felt like it was inappropriate."

After the shower, she messaged everyone who attended to say thank you, including Chloe, who asked if she was OK.

"I was honest and said I felt her announcement was inappropriate and took the spotlight away from me. I said she could've easily told us separately."

But her friend thought it was a cute way to announce it, until the woman admitted she had hijacked her day.

"This upset Chloe and she accused me of not being happy for her (not true!) and being selfish. Our mutual friend is now calling me an a****** and insensitive."

She concluded her post on Reddit by asking users whether she was being unreasonable for confronting her friend about what she'd done.

One person said: "Rule no1 of baby shower club: don't hijack someone else's shower."

Another said: "It’s just downright tacky."

A third added: "Honestly screw the people who congratulate the attention thief in these situations. How hard is it to say 'It's not the time or the place' and continue on with normal celebration?"

And: "It was super rude, it’s like when people propose at other people’s weddings without getting permission from the bride and groom, selfish and bad bad judgement" said a fourth.
