Healthy Eating

Cellulite looks like uneven, lumpy skin and it normally appears around the thighs, hips and backside area. Cellulite is not something to be embarrassed about. It’s simply caused by fat which is an unavoidable part of our anatomy.

It is more common among women than it is among men. Common origins of cellulite are genetics, hormones, poor diet, weight gain and pregnancy.

Avoiding certain foods can lessen the appearance of cellulite. Below is a list of some that you can still enjoy in complete moderation.

Barbecue sauce

Yes, that delicious, sticky sauce that is typically slathered on wings and ribs is a culprit. Barbecue sauces are loaded with sugar which release a fat-storage hormone called insulin. Eating too much barbecue sauce leads to weight gain and the increased appearance of cellulite. You don’t need to completely quit on your favourite barbecue dishes, simply enjoy them in moderation.

Canned soup

These are convenient and come in an array of different flavours. However, canned soups are packed with large amounts of salt. Too much salt causes dehydration which leads to water retention, resulting in bloating all over the body. All this makes cellulite more visible. You’re better off making a homemade hearty pot of soup.

White bread

What’s a classic Kenyan breakfast without white bread? White bread is a refined carbohydrate product made from white flour. This refined carbohydrate is converted into sugar and then into glucose. Glucose affects collagen production which then makes cellulite more visible. If you can't live without bread, and believe us you can, opt for whole-grain bread instead.

Pizza has high levels of saturated fats (Shutterstock)

This list of cellulite-causing foods just gets sadder. Pizza is a universal love language and most of us can agree on how much we love it. This delicious food has high levels of saturated fats which can slow down the flow of oxygen and weaken connective tissues called fascia. The result of this is increased cellulite visibility.
