Nakumatt made it to the semis of the GOtv Shield after edging out Sony Sugar 3-1 on post-match penalties at Nyayo National Stadium yesterday.
The match had ended 1-1 in full time and it had to take penalty kicks to decide the winners.
Sony Sugar, disappointed after losing the Kenyan Premier League Top 8 final to Gor Mahia, were keen to win this one and went ahead in the 56th minute through Victor Ochieng’.
But Nakumatt equalised two minutes later through their key man Peter Nzuki to send the match into penalties.
Nakumatt then scored their penalties through Juma Seif, Donald Mosoti and Mustaffa Mohamed, while Sony Sugar scored their only goal through Amos Nondi.
Elsewhere, today’s semi-final tie between Muhoroni Youth and Bandari hangs in the balance after Football Kenya Federation made a last minute change to the venue of the match.
The fixture was initially scheduled to be played at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, but was on Friday moved to Moi Stadium, Kisumu.
Bandari have vowed not to honour the match following the change of venue even as their opponents said they would play at Moi Stadium.

Bandari Technical Director, Edward Oduor, insisted the letter they have from FKF is clear that it would be played at Nyayo Stadium.
“We received a letter from FKF on Thursday morning that the match will be played at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday. However, later in the evening, the FKF informed us that it has been moved to Kisumu at the request of Muhoroni.
“We informed him that we cannot travel to Kisumu as our budget has been approved for Nairobi. He promised to get back to us but he has not until today. Therefore, we are going by the earlier communication to play the match at Nyayo Stadium,” he said.
But Muhoroni Youth chairman Moses Adagala said they will play the match in Kisumu which is their home ground.
Michael Esakwa, the FKF Secretary General did not answer his phone when we called to seek his comment.
