2020 has been one year many of us will never forget and we can’t wait to put past our backs.

Considering the year it was, most of us are looking forward to what 2021 has to offer. If you lost your job you totally understand what I’m talking about. Your resumes are updated and you can’t wait for the holidays to be over already.

No matter the lows 2020 came with, many lessons have been learnt and new ideas have been generated.

Here are some of the things you need to remember to kick start your career in 2021.

i.Learn from past mistakes

As mentioned earlier, the year 2020 paved way for many business owners and employees to learn from some of the mistakes they were making in the past.

The period many of us had to stay home to curtail the spread of covid-19 became an eye opener. Unexpected opportunities were born and new business ideas propelled by online platforms blew up.

As you head into 2021, carry with you the lessons you have learnt and build yourself by correcting your blunders and avoiding to make similar mistakes.

ii.Keep an open mind

It is expected that things may not kick off as fast as we may all want, but keeping an open mind is a good start.

No matter the situation, remember to keep a positive mind. This will enable you to handle frustration and disappointment appropriately.

iii.Do not be scared to start again

Considering that many businesses were closed and countless jobs and means of livelihood were lost, the fear of the unknown can be very mind boggling.

Start working on that business idea you had, go pitch that product and sell yourself out there. After all, what do you have to lose?

Sometimes it is better to do things in fear than to not do them at all. Successes doesn’t come easy and neither will it find you in your mother’s house wallowing in self-pity.

iv.Volunteer or intern

Internships and volunteering are good ways of getting familiar with your next possible job opportunity. Sometimes it is important to align yourself to organizations and institutions that are in line with your career path and interests.

This is good preparation for what will be coming next. There are many skills to be learned and polished at the same time.

Who knows? Maybe someone in that organization is observing your actions and you could possibly land yourself a job.

v.Make use of small talk

Sometimes it is very important to get familiar with your networks. Enroll yourself for seminars and workshops that will help you network and expand your potential career circle.

It is through speaking to various top shots within your network that you can secure your future in the work market.

Someone you come across may be very passionate about empowering people and may decide to coach you or even hook you up with a job placement.

vi.Use your talent

We are all talented in various ways and if that talent is not tapped into, it may end up going to waste. In this contemporary day and age, talent is now being used as a means of putting food on the table and getting bills paid.

Work on your talent and ensure you get the right exposure by working on your brand and putting yourself out there.
