Health

Baking soda can be used for a million things. From the kitchen odor free, to baking, to soften food and for doing the heavy duty cleaning.

Usually, obtaining soft, smooth and healthy skin has not only been tough but also challenging to achieve. Interestingly, baking soda has been highlighted as an important natural product for the skin.

Baking soda acts as a skin care since it helps to peel and brighten the skin complexion.

1. Baking Soda for Acne

Its alkaline in nature and balances the pH levels of the skin therefore helps remove dead skin and cleans pores. This happens while dying out and healing existing acne.

It also has antibacterial properties that prevent breakouts.

It’s also good at absorbing oil in the skin that leads to break out.

Dermatologists however caution against using baking soda if you have sensitive skin.

2. Teeth whitener

It works as a mild abrasive which removes plaque and yellow stains from the teeth by neutralizing the acids produced.

It also fights bacteria caused by bad breath and reduces the risk of cavities. This is achieved by dipping a wet toothbrush on the baking soda and brushing the teeth as normal.

Usually, you should avoid excessive use to avoid stripping the teeth off its natural protective enamel.

3. Absorbs sweat

Dr. Joshua Zei, a dermatologist says that because of its absorbent nature, baking soda can also be used as an ingredient in a homemade deodorant.

For someone with a highly sensitive skin, they are advised to use a dusting of baking soda in place of deodorants bought as it neutralizes acids and bases which removes odors.

Amazingly, it doesn’t stain clothes as compared to other antiperspirants.

Baking soda also helps kill bacteria that give rise to body odor.

4. Itchy skin reliever

Skin usually itches due to a rash, bug bite or brush with poison ivy.

Baking soda has an inflammatory and bacterial properties. Its alkaline properties dry out the skin and reliefs itching and swelling that comes with skin rashes.
