How to treat breast tenderness at home

Health

Experienced by many women, breast tenderness is a discomfort or pain in the breast or underarm region which may occur for a number of reasons.  It is commonly experienced just before your menstrual cycle, during pregnancy, while breastfeeding and after menopause.

Severity can range from mild to severe. During these times, hormone levels fluctuate causing the pain.

Other causes of tenderness include fibrocystic, shoulder pains, diet, sleeping position, medication side effects or poorly fitted bras. For most women, the feeling tends to go away by itself but there are also simple remedies you can use to ease the soreness.

Identify the root cause of the pain. If it comes from the shoulder or neck, a gentle massage will help relieve the pain by improving blood circulation and improving fluid retention. Use some warm olive or coconut oil and gently massage each breast. Use upward strokes and circular motions without applying too much pressure. Repeat these 3 times a day until the discomfort goes down. Ice packs are a great way to relieve pain caused by injuries or cysts. Due to the cold temperature, it helps numb the nerves reducing the discomfort. Place ice cubes on a cotton cloth and place it over the breasts while exerting some mild pressure. Hold it until it melts then repeat a few times a day. Some women prefer warm compresses which help relax sore muscles and help in blood circulation. You can either soak into a hot tub or use hot a towel. Soak it in hot water and squeeze out excess water. Place it on the breast and leave it until it becomes cold. Repeat the process. One of the many uses and benefits of primrose oil is making the breasts less sensitive to hormonal changes due to linoleic acid. By applying it this will ease tenderness before your periods. If you discover the tenderness and discomfort come during the day or after sitting down for a while, the reason could be your bra. A wrong fitted bra will do more harm than good. Opt for a soft sports bra or a well padded one without any underwires. Let the girls’ breath and sleep braless every time you hit bed. You will notice the difference.
