Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid break up amid singer’s dispute with her mum

Supermodel Gigi Hadid and singer Zayn Malik are reportedly splitting.

According to multiple sources that spoke to PEOPLE, the two are no longer together, however, they continue to co-parent their 13-month-old baby girl, Khai.

News of their breakup comes hours after TMZ ran a report that Gigi’s mum, Yolanda Hadid, had claimed that Zayn “struck” her, a claim that the former One Direction singer denied.

“I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid,” he wrote on a social media statement. “For the sake of my daughter I decline to give any further details.”

In the statement, the singer expressed hope that Yolanda will “reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private” before shedding light on what led to the alleged incident with the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star.

“As you all know I am a private person and I very much want to create a safe and private place for my daughter to grow up in. A place where private family matters aren’t thrown on the world stage for all to poke and pick apart,” he continued.

“In an effort to protect that space for her, I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago.”

The 28-year-old singer also shared his disappointment that his apparent issues with Gigi’s family were made public: “This was and still should be a private matter but it seems for now there is divisiveness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner in which she deserves, this has been ‘leaked’ to the press.”

The celebrity couple first sparked romance rumours in November 2015 at an American Music Awards afterparty when they stepped out together.

After dodging questions about their romance for months, the 26-year-old supermodel starred in Zayn’s “Pillow Talk,” a music video that was filled with PDA.

However, they had their first breakup in March 2018 after about two and a half years of dating. They both made statements on social media announcing the split on social media only to reconcile a month later in April 2018. This time they kept their relationship very private and generally off social media.

In April 2020, the couple confirmed Hadid’s pregnancy and on September 23, 2020, new dad Zayn announced the arrival of their child. “Our baby girl is here, healthy and beautiful,” he wrote on social media.
