Meghan Markle pens handwritten note to be placed on wreath at Prince Philip's funeral

A handwritten note from Meghan Markle has been placed on a wreath at Prince Philip's funeral.

The Duchess of Sussex was not able to return to the UK to attend the event as she is heavily pregnant.

Instead, she's watching the moving service on a video live stream from the Sussexes' LA home with their son Archie.

Meghan and Harry personally chose the locally-sourced flowers for their wreath, and each of the beautiful flowers has a special meaning.

It includes Acanthus mollis (Bear's breeches), which is the National flower of Greece and Eryngium (Sea Holly), in a nod to Philip's much-loved Royal Marines.

The wreath also features Campanula for gratitude and everlasting love, Rosemary to signify remembrance, Lavender for devotion, and Roses in honour of June being Philip's birth month.

Harry joined his brother Prince William and other senior members of the royal family to walk behind the Duke's coffin, which was carried on a custom made Land Rover.

It's the first time he's has been seen in the UK since he officially quit the royal family last year, and just weeks after he made a series of shocking claims about his relatives in his interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Philip was involved in planning his funeral but the arrangements had to be heavily modified in line with Covid-19 restrictions.

The Queen had to cut the 800-people guest list down to just 30, and everyone has to wear face masks.

The Duke's children - Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward - are all in attendance as well as his grandchildren.

However they all have to sit apart in household bubbles, which means Harry and the Queen are sitting alone.

The Duke of Sussex is sitting on the opposite side of the chapel from Kate and William.
