A Kenyan woman suffering from Leukemia who has been stranded in Abu Dhabi, United Arabs Emirates (UAE), over lack of travel documents will be evacuated on Tuesday.
Fatuma Kazdungu Thoya who had been working in Abu Dhabi will arrive at Moi International Airport in Mombasa tomorrow after the Diaspora County48 Kenya organised for a funds drive to facilitate her travel back home.
Diaspora County48 Kenya governor Bernard Kavyu said that the woman was hospitalised and doctors have agreed to discharge her so that she can be monitored closely by her parents back home.
"Our Diaspora County48 Kenya Governor, I would like to bring to your attention that we have one of us in Dubai who is hospitalized in Abu Dhabu. As Middle East, we do have contributions as members and we have started the same for our sister Fatuma," Kavyu told his members.
He revealed that the Diaspora County 48 and Diaspora Insurance covered all the costs of evacuation and admission to a hospital in Kenya estimated at Sh500,000.
Kavyu said upon arrival in Mombasa, Fatuma will be received by her children and uncle Philip Baya among other relatives.
In a letter to Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu, he sort the help of the government to enable the woman continue with treatment.
He revealed that Fatuma's children were suspended from school for non-payment of school fees.

"She will require bone marrow transplant in Kenya. Her children are suspended from school for non-payment of school fees. Diaspora County48 Kenya and Diaspora Insurance have paid for her evacuation back home. We are kindly asking for your assistance to help this poor woman who is in a destitute state. She will need to be admitted in hospital within the next 14 days," wrote Kavyu in the letter to the Diaspora affairs PS.
"Fatuma's number is +254727856872. It would be nice to have an official from the State Department for Diaspora Affairs meet her as she is very fragile," he added.
Kavyu urged the government to embrace Diaspora Insurance to ensure Kenyans abroad were catered for whenever they experience challenges.
