Covid-19: 960 recover as 269 test positive in last 24 hours

Kenya on Sunday recorded 269 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 3,872 raising the country's caseload to 243,725.

In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 6.9 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,454,663.

Out of the new patients, 135 are male, whereas 134 are female, with the youngest carrier being a one-year-old baby, and the oldest aged 101.

Of the new cases, four are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi leads with 117, Kajiado 20, Machakos 18, Nakuru 17, Meru and Uasin Gishu 11 cases each, Kitui 10, Kiambu 9, Nyeri and Kisii 6 cases each, Embu, Marsabit, Mombasa and Garissa 5 cases each, Bomet and Kakamega 4 cases each, Laikipia 3, Taita Taveta 2, Baringo, Bungoma, Isiolo, Kericho, Kwale, Migori, Siaya, Nandi and Murang’a 1 case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 4,906 after four (4) patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 232,918 after 960 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 895 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 65 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 188,946 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 43,972 are from various hospitals countrywide.

A total of 1,600 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,032 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

One hundred and forty-one (141) patients are in the ICU, 93 of whom are on ventilatory support and 34 on supplemental oxygen. 14 patients are on observation.

Another 626 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 567 of them in general wards and 59 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination

Kenya has at September 11, 2021, administered 3,090,932 vaccines across the country.

Of these, the total first doses are 2,262,968 while the second doses are 827,964.

The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is as follows: Aged 58 years and above 244,495, others 251,342, Health Workers 136,906, Teachers 125,185 while Security Officers are at 70,036.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 36.6 per cent with the majority being males at 56 per cent while females are at 44 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 3.04 per cent.
