National AIDS council gets new director

NAIROBI, KENYA: The National AIDS Control Council (NACC) has appointed Dr Nduku Kilonzo as the new Director.

Kilonzo takes over from Prof Alloys Orago who has served the Organization as a Director from 2007-2013.

Prior to joining the NACC, Kilonzo was the Executive Director of Liverpool VCT Care and Treatment (LVCT Health) (formerly Liverpool VCT).

LVCT Health is a local Kenyan NGO offering care and treatment to over 40,000 individuals, testing to 1.2 million annually, doing research and policy reforms, an organization she has served for the last 6 years.

Kilonzo holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Tropical Medicine Gender and Health from the University of Liverpool, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM).

She has also been involved in the development of innovative, quality-assured HIV Testing and Counselling program in Kenya, Malawi, Botswana and Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast).

Her primary research and publications have been in the area of sexual violence and HIV.

Her work has provided evidence for the development of integrated public health facility post- rape care services that are currently offered in over 250 hospitals in Kenya and HIV prevention interventions.

Nduku has over 20 peer reviewed publications and book chapters and has been the team leader in developing the Kenya National HIV Testing and Counselling Report 2011/12.

She is currently an Advisor in Gender and Rights Advocacy Panel to the WHO, an editor of Reproductive Health Matters, a peer review journal and member of the Public Health Association of Kenya.
