Covid-19: 88 fresh cases recorded, 57 recover in last 24 hours

Kenya has so far administered 6,311,749 Covid-19 vaccines across the country, the Ministry of Health has announced.

Of these, 3,963,035 have been partially vaccinated while 2,348,714 have been fully vaccinated.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is 55.4 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 8.6 per cent as the government works towards vaccinating 27, 246,033.

Total vaccines the ministry has received to date stand at 10, 704,690.

Covid-19 numbers

Kenya also recorded 88 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 4,802 raising the country's caseload to 254,629.

In a statement on Friday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 1.8 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,790,474.

Out of the new patients, 44 are male, whereas 44 are female, with the youngest carrier being an six-year-old child, and the oldest aged 86.

Of the new cases, two are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi County recorded 17 cases, Siaya 16, Kericho 14, Nakuru 8, Kakamega and Kisii 5 cases each, Turkana and Nyeri 3 cases each, Machakos, Uasin Gishu and West Pokot 2 cases each.

Bomet, Bungoma, Elgeyo Marakwet, Busia, Garissa, Kajiado, Kiambu, Murang’a and Taita Taveta 1 case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll still stands at 5,325 after no deaths were reported from the virus in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 247,874 after 57 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 35 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 22 patients are from health facilities across the country.

Of the total recoveries, 200,195 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 47,679 are from various hospitals countrywide.

Admitted

A total of 367 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 993 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Twenty-one (21) patients are in the ICU, nine of whom are on ventilatory support and 12 on supplemental oxygen. No patients are on observation.

Another 118 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 116 of them in the general wards while two patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
