While pets may seem like simple companions, caring for them comes with great responsibility. Designing a comfortable space for your pet benefits both you and your pet. Here’s how to design a pet home that is both friendly and stylish:

Use multi-functional furniture: Choose ottomans or benches with built-in storage for toys, leads, and grooming supplies. Choose pet beds that double as side tables or that can be tucked neatly away under furniture.

Choose pet-friendly fabric: Select stain-resistant, washable materials such as microfibre or leather. Darker colours and patterns help to hide fur and dirt.

Make use of vertical space: Install wall shelves or mounted cat perches to create climbing areas. Cats especially love elevated spaces. Window hammocks also provide entertainment without taking up floor space.

Designate a pet zone: Create a cosy corner with a pet bed, food bowls and toys. Use small rugs or mats to define the area while maintaining a stylish look.

Prioritise durable décor: Invest in sturdy, high-quality, scratch-resistant furnishings that can withstand pet activity. One option is to incorporate pet-safe, non-toxic plants to add a natural touch to the space.

Create a stylish feeding area: Use elevated, aesthetically pleasing food and water bowls. Consider neutral or patterned bowls, beds and toys that blend with your décor. Place a spill-proof mat underneath to maintain cleanliness.

Pet-proof your décor: Secure loose cables and cords and keep fragile or chewable items out of reach.

Stylish pet gates: Retractable gates and open shelving can act as room dividers, keeping pets contained without looking bulky.

Implement smart storage solutions: Hang leads and harnesses on decorative wall hooks. Use labelled baskets or drawers to neatly organise pet supplies.

Maximise natural light and airflow: Pets love sunny spots, so keep windows accessible with a secure screen. A small balcony or window box is ideal for giving them access to fresh air.
