The curse of the small bedroom: not enough space to get around, little or no floor space beyond the bed, limited storage space in the closets. We all have that one bedroom in our house that we can’t get everything to fit in right. It might not be your master bedroom per se. It could be the guestroom or the kids’ rooms. Here are creative tips to get that bedroom organized.
Hang shelves above the headboard
Headboards give your bed some edge and style but if you think of it they are wasted space. Hanging wall shelves above your headboard if you have a low headboard or on the sides if you have a towering headboard will put the space into good use.
Stay away from canopy beds
Canopy beds come with the added advantage of a mosquito net holder. In a small bedroom however, they make your space cramped and busy. If you have a big bedroom a canopy bed will fit in right.
Use the back of the door
If your door just swings open and shut and you have no storage space, make use of the backside of the door. There are several hanging storage options in the market that will solve your storage problems with items like socks, scarves and shoes.
Under bed storage
Use the space under your bed to store items that you don’t need on the regular. Extra bedding, shoes and old books can be stored neatly under the bed. Invest in a bed with pull out drawers or use the bed you already have with storage containers, storage boxes or wicker baskets.
Hang shoes on the wall
Shoes everywhere are the biggest problem in a small bedroom. You will need an old ladder or strips of wood drilled into the wall. Attach hooks onto your wooden rails and hang your shoes on hooks. No more shoes on the floor!
Make your desk a nightstand
They say you should not take work to your bedroom to reduce stress and improve work life balance. This is not always the case, especially if you work from home or need to get home finances checked out.
If you must have a desk in your bedroom and have no space for it, replace it with the nightstand. Move the desk and chair next to the bed. Add your lamp and a few decorative items and have your desk double up as a nightstand.
