Fun activities to do as a couple during self-quarantine

Many of us are currently practising social distancing and staying indoors. There’s only so much you can do when you’re confined inside your home for a long period of time. When you’re single with no children, there is no partner to keep company or any kids to entertain.

However, there are many couples who are probably running out of things to do and ways to keep each other entertained. Here are five things you can do as a couple to beat the boredom during this time.

Have a karaoke contest

What better way to ease off any stress caused by the fear of Coronavirus? There are so many free karaoke tunes of your favourite songs on YouTube. You don’t need to sound like Beyoncé or Stevie Wonder. In fact, the worse you sound, the more fun you’ll have.

If you have kids, you can turn your karaoke session into a singing competition and make your children the judges. You can even make the loser wash the next round of dishes or do the laundry.

Look back at life

Photo albums are no longer household monuments that we used to show visitors when they would visit us. If you’ve been together for several years, you’ve probably stored a number of memorable moments in a photo album, cloud storage or in your devices.

During this time of self-quarantine, life has slowed down and many of us now have more time on our hands to spend with our loved ones. Why not go through those captured moments and laugh, or cry, at significant moments in your relationship.

Have a cooking contest

In the wake of panic buying, many people have stocked up their homes with more food than they would normally buy. Why not have a fun cooking competition? This would even be more fun if you would get your children involved and make them critique your meals.

Just like the karaoke competition, you can come up with a punishment for the loser just to make the cooking contest that much more interesting. Please remember not to be wasteful, and only cook dishes that you’ve prepared before that can be kept in the fridge for future meals.

Play board games

When working from home, you can sometimes lose track of time and work past the normal time schedule you would follow at your place of work. Boardgames will never run out of style so use your breaks to unwind and look at something besides your bright computer screen.

Nothing beats a healthy, fun old-fashioned competition of tangible games that aren’t on a technological device. You can find fun, affordable board games online or in local toy stores.

Declutter and reorganise

This is the perfect time to declutter and reorganise your home. Aside from the outfits you would typically wear to work, there are pieces of clothing that you’ve probably not worn in years and know that they’ll never see the light of day.

The rest of your house probably has a number of items that you’ve been meaning to get rid of. Use this moment to purge your home and donate some items to the less fortunate. You can also rearrange your living space and move things around so that you don’t get tired of looking at the same scenery every day.

If you could choose any age, to stay in for the rest of your life, which would it be?
