Today is Christmas Eve, it is the evening before Christmas Day, the festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, a day observed and celebrated around the world.
“I was brought up in a family that always celebrated Christmas Eve, says Janet, reminiscing her childhood experience of Christmas Eve.
“This is the most joyful part of the Christmas festivity. Neighborhood choirs would participate in Christmas Eve Carols, singing from house to house before midnight. This no longer happens in the neighborhood due to security challenges.”
When I was young, my brothers and sisters could not wait for midnight when they had to open the beautifully wrapped packages under the Christmas tree.
The message of Christmas Eve with family was a simple expression of love. Everything in the season told us that we were valued. We enjoyed wearing new clothes, eating lots of good food.
We stayed awake most of the night, singing carols together, enjoying fellowship and eating all the delicacies that had been prepared. It was a celebration that remains part of family tradition to this day.
The message of Christmas is for all. If you don’t already have a family tradition, it would be a good time to consider one this season. Express love and extend grace in abundance.
God, expressing how very much He loves us, sent his only begotten son, Jesus Christ to be born of flesh, in one simple but miraculous act that has impacted the world for generations.
That is good news of great joy and peace to the world. God loves you and desires that you live a fruitful, fulfilling life of love, joy, peace and abundance.
Christmas is a time when families spend time together, whether in their homes in the city or upcountry. This is the time to appreciate those around you with the love of Christ.
