Man shows 'correct' way to strain pasta and says we've all been doing it wrong

A man who claims most of us have been straining pasta the wrong way all our lives has sparked a fierce debate after posting a video to show his alternative method.

He begins by demonstrating the method most of us use - by simply pouring the pot of pasta into a sieve to drain the water so it's ready to be eaten.

After telling us that's not the way sieves were designed to work, he then moves on to share how he claims "it was made to be used".

Rather than holding the sieve under the pan, he flips it round so the domed end is in the pasta pot, and then tips it up so the water escapes and the pasta remains inside.

He argued the method simply "makes life easier" and also puts less strain on your wrists.

The video, captioned "Tell the truth, you didn't know about this" has gained almost half a million views since it was shared on TikTok.

Some users loved the idea, as one commented to say: "I'm so gonna be doing this now, why have I never thought about this before."

A second wrote: "I think you just changed my life."

Another replied: "Wow. Been doing it wrong forever."

But plenty of others hit back to argue the original technique was the 'correct' way, with some pointing out his method only works if the sieve is big enough to stop the pasta slipping out the sides and dropping into the sink.

One said: "No, you actually are supposed to pour it in the strainer but you do you."

Another wrote: "That's actually not how it's meant to be used. The original way is correct."

A third said: "It wasn't designed for that - it's a sieve", as one person added: "This! It's designed to sieve flour. Buy a colander genius."

For what in your life do you feel most grateful?
