A man says he has a sparked a bitter argument with his own parents by forcing them to move out his house during the pandemic after discovering they were "bullying" his children.

He says at the start of the pandemic his parents asked if they could move in with him as they are higher risk individuals and would benefit from having a support system around them.

The man, who is a single dad, agreed and his parents moved into the home he shares with his two children - who he named Marcus, 16, and Maria, 14, for the sake of the post. He explained his parents were not paying rent or contributing to the bills during their stay.

He says he and his own dad had a difficult relationship when he was growing up as his parent "always believed in hard love", and as a result his dad "doesn't know much" about his grandchildren Marcus and Maria either.

In the past, his parents have made comments about his children that "anger" him, including comments such as "he's not very manly" and "that's not very ladylike", but he said he had "learned to deal with it".

When he returned home from work later than usual recently, and found Maria and Marcus to be "quite visibly upset" so he questioned them over what had happened.

His daughter has endometriosis and suffers badly from the pain that comes with it, and their dad explained Marcus often looks after her when she's in discomfort.

He wrote on Reddit: "They said that [the grandparents] had told Maria to just suck it up while she was in pain and told Marcus that he needed to stop being weak or he would be a useless man when he grew up."

"At this I saw red and told my parents to get out, they obviously put up protest but they left.

"They called me and left numerous voicemails about how I wouldn’t care if they were to get sick.

"Now that I have had some time to rethink my actions I think I’m an a**hole because I should have tried and explaining my issues with their comments again instead of doing something like kicking them out in the spur of the moment."

But many readers responded to say he had absolutely done the right thing, as one wrote: "Endometriosis is a serious condition and it’s wonderful that your son loves his sister enough to take care of her when she’s dealing with it.

"There’s no wrong way to be a man or a woman as long as you’re treating others with respect and kindness. Your parents aren’t paying rent, and they’re constantly talking down to your kids? Sorry, your kids are your primary concern now, not the parents. I hope they stay healthy but that’s no longer your concern."

A second said: "You have great kids and they need to know you are on their side, and that they are just fine as they are."

And someone else added: "I have both PCOS and Endometriosis and I'd love for one of these men to feel that pain for even just one minute and tell them to suck it up."
