Embu Regional Blood Transfusion Centre head Sammy Kihara has disclosed that two per cent of blood in hospitals is wasted through non-refrigeration and poor handling by medics.
Speaking during the World Blood Donor day in Embu town, Kihara said blood shortage would continue to plague hospitals if the current wastage was not addressed.
He said the facility was working closely with doctors and the hospitals' management towards zero blood wastage.
Embu centre serves Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Marsabit, Isiolo, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Laikipia and Nyeri counties.
