Mum chained disabled daughter to toilet for a year causing her flesh to rot

Parenting

mentalinchainsA mentally disabled woman locked her daughter in a barn for a year – leaving her flesh to rot away.

A shocked family member eventually found Aneta Pokorskia, 25, who is physically disabled, and discovered that one of her buttocks and part of her thigh had rotted away.

She was suffering from malnutrition and dehydration and had fleas and frostbite.

The family member had been told by the mother, Maria Pokorskia, 53, that the daughter had been taken in by social workers a year ago.

But relatives became concerned when nothing further was said about Aneta's location.

Unable to walk any longer, she had been chained to a small toilet. The room she was kept in had no heating despite temperatures plunging to close to freezing.

According to police, the Mrs Pokorskia had locked her daughter in the barn after arguing with family members who had wanted her put into care.

And to make sure Aneta did not make too much noise she had also moved into the barn herself, putting a small bed in one corner at the property on the outskirts of Bochnia, Poland.

A police spokesman said: "The daughter was chained to a home-made toilet. It was a chair with a hole cut into it underneath which was a bucket.

"The mother used a different corner of the barn as a toilet. When officers found the daughter she looked like she had been in a death camp.

"She was dressed in rags, starving, freezing, half her buttock was missing and half of her thigh too.

"The barn had no heating and no water."

Aneta was taken to hospital where doctors say it is likely she will need extensive rehabilitation.

A spokesman said: "She can’t walk because of the muscle damage to her legs and she can’t talk because of her mental disability."

Police say they cannot prosecute the mother because she is mentally ill.

An enquiry has been launched by prosecutors looking into why both women, who were registered with social services, had been left alone for so long.
