The feeling of being nauseated is probably one of the worst things you can experience. It makes it hard for you to concentrate on anything else because your focus is basically on avoiding an incoming throw up.

Nausea can come when you’re sick from something that’s triggering your body to purge it out or when you’re experiencing major hormonal shifts like during pregnancy or periods. Other times, it can come from anxiety, motion sickness and other uncomfortable situations that can make you feel like you’re about to puke.

I mean, for some even the smell of eggs in a frying pan can have them running out for fresh air.

The good news is, there are many over the counter medications you can take. But, simple home remedies work as well. Try these five nausea fighting remedies the next time you’re feeling sick:

Lemon and honey

Lemon and honey is a great duo that comes in handy for different uses. In this case, it’s a well-known solution to go for if you’re feeling nauseated.

You will need one tablespoon of honey and one tablespoon of lemon juice. Mix them together and that’s it!

You can keep this mixture close to you and lick some of it whenever you feel the discomfort. Lots of people have tried it and it works almost instantly.

Salt crackers

Chewing on salt crackers is another good remedy that can work for you. When you’re feeling sick, strong smells like spices can make you feel worse than you already do and make it hard for you to eat anything.

Salt crackers don’t have a strong smell and they help to settle your stomach which will help you feel better. This works well if you’re dealing with morning sickness too since it’s a safe option for most pregnant women.

Fresh air

Nothing beats good, ol’ fresh air.

There are times when you have limited access to different remedies and are looking for something quick that can drive the nausea away. And, it wouldn’t help to stay in an area with overwhelming smells such as a restaurant or a washroom.

Instead of forcing yourself to be strong, go outside where the air isn’t saturated with different smells and within a few minutes, you might start to feel better.

Inhale the fresh air through your nose slowly, and exhale through your mouth a couple of times until your stomach settles.

Try aromatherapy with peppermint oil

Peppermint has some great therapeutic and medicinal benefits as well. Some people have noted some improvements when they inhaled some of the oil during an episode of nausea so it could work for you too.

You can pour a few drops on your hand and inhale some of it for quick relief or use it in your diffuser if you have one.

Drink cold water

Taking a few sips of chilled water is also known to alleviate the discomfort that comes with nausea. It is advisable to skip sugary drinks since they can make you feel worse.

Cold water for nausea works fast and keeps you hydrated which is a plus. If you don’t mind, you can also suck an ice-cube.
