Should people dictate to you how to live your life?

Humans are social beings, which mean that they like to associate with fellow human beings. People get fulfillment once they have gained acceptance from others. It is true even if most people don't like to admit it.

I think it's both normal and okay to want to feel a sense of belonging, because let's face it, the world can get very lonely sometimes despite all the people walking around. The problem however comes in when you can no longer function as an individual and you become dependent on your social circle in virtually everything.

 Their opinion comes first before yours, their decisions are yours and you can't do anything without their approval. Contrary to what most people might think, it does not happen consciously. It all seems normal, like it's the right thing to do or like consulting on every matter regarding you is the way to go.

People are stuck in jobs they don't like believing they have no choice. Others are living beyond their means, getting loans to fund lifestyles that are way beyond what their paychecks can afford. All this in order to maintain a certain appearance to their friends and families.

 Some get depressed if their pictures on social media don't get enough likes and others even go to the extent of buying followers, both of which are just pathetic. Why? Because we have become slaves of vanity.

Our levels of self-esteem have finally dropped to zero, in that we are so desperate to fit in,to be liked by everyone except ourselves. Activists are always advocating for diversity in terms of gender, age etc. but what we need more is diversity in thought.

The truth is, we are all unique in our looks and thought which is what makes us God's special creation. Therefore everyone should embrace their difference. Let nobody dictate to you what to eat, how to spend your money and how to live your life in general.

 In short, own your choices it's the only thing in this world you don't have to share with anyone. People can advise but the decision is purely up to you to make with no apologies. Take back your freedom and live happily ever after.
