Louis van Gaal wants a reunion with his Dutch No1 Cillessen at United

Jasper Cillessen reckons Ajax will do everything in their power to stop him moving to Manchester United.

Goalkeeper Cillessen is United’s top target to replace David De Gea, who is set to sign for Real Madrid this summer.

German giants Bayern Munich are also now trailing Cillessen, but the Holland international said: “The Ajax management are going to make it really difficult when the interest becomes concrete.

“If I had planned to leave, I would not have signed a new contract until 2018. My old contract was expiring in the summer of 2016 and in that case this summer would have been the perfect moment to leave.

“[Ajax coach] Frank de Boer has been very clear when he received questions about my transfer - he wants to block it.’’

That will not put United off however, and it is believed an offer in the region of £20m could be enough to convince the Amsterdam club to sell.

Cillessen has a good relationship with United manager Louis van Gaal and was his No1 at the World Cup finals a year ago.

The stopper admits his career has catapulted since Van Gaal and his goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek put their faith in him.

Cilessen added: “Since the World Cup in Brazil the whole world has changed for me. It says something about my status that I am now linked to such big clubs.

“I can’t walk in public anymore. I can’t sit in a restaurant without being asked for photos and autographs.”

If the Cillessen interest hits a brick wall, United’s back-up options to replace De Gea are Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris and Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid.

Spurs, though, will also play hardball and have no intention of letting their captain leave, so 22-year-old Oblak - who faced England for his country Slovenia last weekend - could be a more realistic target.
