TikTok's ability to drive trends to their absolute limit is undeniable, and the latest craze, the "yarn makeup" challenge, is a testament to that. Skilled creators are transforming their faces into works of art using nothing more than yarn, makeup, and a dash of extraordinary creativity.
The trend originated with influencer Eleanor Barnes (@snitchery on TikTok), who posted a striking, somewhat unsettling recreation of the look. Her video, captioned "Say hello to your new sleep paralysis demon," sparked a wave of intrigued reactions. "I need to try this," one user commented, expressing a fascination with the "naturally uncanny" nature of yarn makeup.

Barnes credited 19-year-old makeup artist Anna Murphy, the trend's originator, who then shared a tutorial on her own TikTok page, effectively igniting the challenge's viral spread.
From that point, TikTok's artistic community took over, flooding the platform with stunning interpretations of the look. Murphy's tutorial began with a base of Mehron white liquid makeup applied to her entire face. Once dry, she added Ben Nye spirit gum, then meticulously attached yarn in a spiral pattern, carefully cutting it around her eyes and mouth.

With her face completely covered in yarn, Murphy then applied a full face of makeup, including blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, and lipstick, transforming the yarn into a vibrant canvas.
While the final look was undeniably captivating, Murphy admitted that the experience was far from comfortable. "Though it looked really cool, it felt terrible," she shared.

This unique trend isn't for everyone. The sensation of yarn adhered to the face proved too much for some, while others embraced the artistry and playful nature of the challenge. Replicating the "yarn face" requires genuine skill and creativity, demanding precise placement of yarn and flawless makeup application.
