After failing to get a job in Kenya, Edward Gathungu left for Saudi Arabia last year when he got an offer to work as a chef at a hotel in the Middle East kingdom.
Soon after settling down in the Gulf, it became routine for Gathungu to call his wife and two children aged eight and five on a daily basis to bond over the day's events.
That was until October 1 when he mysteriously stopped calling, sending his wife Esther Wangari, 28, into a panic. Three days later, Wangari was informed that her husband had been involved in a road accident.
