Miss World Kenya kicks off campaign to succeed Karolina Bielawska

This year’s Miss World Kenya contest is gaining momentum with 42 of the over 200 applicants having been selected to head to boot camp. The list of finalists was officially released on Friday, this week.

With Standard Group PLC as the media partner, through its Entertainment and Lifestyle platforms, the 2022 edition promises to be bigger and better as the contestants seek to succeed the reigning queen Sharon Obara, who was among the top 20 during last year’s international finals in Puerto Rico.

Karolina Bielawska from Poland was crowned the winner with Shree Saini from the United States and Olivia Yace from Cote d’Ivoire coming second and third, respectively.

The boot camp that kicks off on November 28 and closes on December 9 will see the models go through rigorous training on public speaking and other communication skills, etiquette and discipline issues, personal grooming and hygiene, catwalk and modelling design skills as well as general wellbeing. A team of professional trainers who have already been selected for this process awaits the hopefuls.

Speaking to Standard Entertainment after the release of the finalists' list, Terry Mungai, the Miss World Kenya pageant holder and CEO of Ashleys Kenya limited, said her team was optimistic that the process will produce a top model who will carry Kenya’s flag high after the December 9 national finals.

“Miss World Kenya is celebrating 50 years of its existence in Kenya this year. This year looks promising. Our girls have always emerged top during the Miss World finals and this time round we want to bring the crown home. We are currently the African country to beat on the international stage, having won the continental crown four times in the last five years. That is why every step of this journey is carefully and professionally executed. I have confidence in our partners and sponsors among then Standard Group PLC, Kenya’s leading media house that has always supported us and the entire creative industry,” Terry said.

“The prestigious pageant is franchised by Ashleys Kenya and attracts thousands of participants across the country each year and has impacted the lives of over 5000 youth in the last decade alone. The pageant enables participants to contribute towards various charitable causes, to showcase numerous cultures, make an impact and is a key contributor through being a platform that has launched several creative careers and a training ground for the advertising and entertainment industry,” Terry remarked.

This year, the pageant will debut as a reality TV show in addition to its annual glamorous crowning gala.
