One of the most common excuses for avoiding Valentine’s Day celebrations is the cost. Many of us have allowed ourselves to be sucked into the myth that in order to have a fantastic day and score points with your partner, you have to shell out tonnes of money.
However, this doesn’t have to be the case. While we all want to go on a romantic getaway or try out that new, fabulous restaurant that so many are raving about, simpler, more affordable dates can also make this day one for the books.
Below are five budget-friendly date ideas that will make this Valentine’s Day one to remember.
1. Cook together
There’s nothing more romantic than being in the kitchen together, preparing a scrumptious meal as you chat, share kisses and hugs. Plan out the meal beforehand and buy the ingredients together. Ensure that you both participate in the preparations. This will serve as great foreplay for some even tastier dessert.
2. Book an Airbnb
As I said above, not many of us can afford a night or two at a highly-rated hotel. Enter Airbnb. You can rent out an apartment for the night, or entire weekend, and have couple time away from the distractions of your daily lives.
This will also afford you the time to catch up on your lives, make plans for the future and resolve any issues you might have, without any interruptions.
3. Write down what you love about each other
Tell your spouse why you love them. Have it written down and if possible framed and put up in your bedroom. For married couples you can renew your vows even in the privacy of your home.
This is a great way to remind your spouse that you still treasure them and that no matter what you might be going through, you’ve still got their back.
4. Send them something special
On the day, have a special gift delivered to your partner’s office. Keeping with the budget-friendly tone of this article, you can get flowers, chocolate, a dessert to have after lunch, a love note, a bottle of their favourite drink to have later that evening, etc. Remember, this will only be romantic if your partner is into these kinds of gestures.
5. Recreate your first date
If you’ve been together for a while, this is a great way to remind yourselves of where your love journey began. If possible, you can reminisce about those early days and laugh about the shenanigans you used to pull.
