Five tips for guilt free shopping for hot off the rail clothes

We all love a good shopping spree once in a while. If we had an option, we’d all probably shop for new clothes every day. As consumers, we sometimes have the feeling of guilt creeping in after a shopping trip. We often buy things we didn’t really need and end up having so much anxiety and guilt and at the same time, little value for money spent.

If you especially can’t get your hands off new clothes that just hit the rail, this is for you.

Guilt free consumption is a thing and here’s how to do it.

Don’t impulse-buy

One of the things shoppers struggle with is impulse buying. A window shopping trip easily turns into a full cart of clothes that you don’t really need in real sense. You find yourself with duplicates that you swore were different colors and a dress that you thought would look great just because it was fresh and new. If you suffer from this, the best way to deal with it is to train yourself with something called ‘stop and think’. It sound obvious but it really helps put the brakes when it comes to new clothes. Ask yourself if you’ll seriously wear what you are buying and be honest with yourself. Deep down, you know.

Stick to a budget

The consumer culture encourages you to buy, buy, and buy. You go with a set mind that you’ll only buy two items and end up surpassing your budget and chipping away your monthly budget for groceries. It’s probably instinctual when you notice that some items are selling fast so you quickly add to cart because they might not be in stock anytime soon. At times, you might even reserve items at a certain fee and regret later on. The best way to avoid this consumer guilt is being strict with your budget and only get what you can afford at the time.

Always try on items when you can

One of the most effective strategies for guilt free shopping is trying on items before you buy them. Yes it’s annoying when you have ten things to try but it’s always worth it. Many items looks so great on the rails but when you try them on, things are different. Assuming that items will always fit right is the starter pack to hoarding and having to give away stuff because they don’t fit.

Don’t be afraid to inquire

This is a tip especially for online shopping. Many people are quick to add to cart and buy items from Instagram only to be disappointed. There are many times when you get items that are too small, too large, too tight or even too loose. It can be hard to gauge exactly if what you are buying will be a perfect fit. Always ask the seller if the materials stretch, if they are a big or small fit and other essential questions before buying. It’s your right as a consumer to get value for your money.

Look for quality

In order to be guilt free, opt for quality over quantity when shopping for items. Many buyers hike prices on items that don’t match in terms of quality so when you buy them, you have a lingering guilty feeling for buying something that clearly wasn’t worth it. Ensure that you pay attention to the quality of what you are buying when shopping.
