'Sex should be practised only in total darkness': Bizarre lovemaking tips from the 1800s

Between The Sheets

A hilarious book of sex tips from the Victorian era has revealed the bizarre attitudes of the time.

The book , Sex Tips For Husbands and Wives from 1894, was written by Ruth Smythers.

She was a vicar's wife with stuffy attitudes to "wifely duties" and the book is being reissued, The Sun reports.

But the tips also reportedly include how to avoid love-making with the hubby - including the old headache trick.

What one thing never fails to make you feel better??

The tips include...

1. Sex, when it cannot be prevented, should be practised only in total darkness.

2. Once the husband has completed the act, a wise wife will nag him about minor tasks she wish him to perform on the morrow.

3. She will be absolutely silent or babble about her housework while he is huffing and puffing away.

4. She will lie perfectly still and never under any circumstances grunt or groan while the act is in progress.

5. She should let him grope her in the dark in the hope he stumbles to incur a slight injury thus denying him sexual access.

6. Never forget - give little, give seldom and, above all, give grudgingly.

7. Some women actually anticipate the wedding night ordeal with curiosity and pleasure... beware such an attitude.
