FIRST DATE

PAMELA: I met my sweetheart during a job interview on June 2012 at Wonderland Resort in Embu County. We sat together as we waited for the interviews. We exchanged pleasantries and talked for a while.

After the interviews, we boarded a matatu. He sat next to me. We later exchanged e-mail addresses and phone numbers. I even had the confidence to give him my phone to save his number. We kept in touch on phone because he was from Meru while I was from Chuka. We met again one year later when he came to see me.

DAVID: When I saw her at the interview, it immediately struck me that she was the woman of my life. I hadn’t interacted much with women before but I found myself enjoying her company. She had a smile that left her image etched in my mind.

I did not hesitate to ask for her contacts on our way back home. Though I did not get the job, I thank God that the interview gave me a wife. Due to the distance, I ensured I kept in touch by sending text messages every day before we started talking on phone. Most of our courtship was a distance relationship because she worked in Embu and later Mwea while I was in Meru.

THE PROPOSAL

PAMELA: It was on June 1, 2015 when he came to my house. He had bought an engagement ring and asked if I would marry him. It came as a surprise though I was ready for him. I excitedly said, “yes” deep from my heart.

DAVID: The proposal was simple. I bought the ring and met her at her house. I posed the question. It was a YES.

THE DRAMA:

DAVID: God was so gracious to us because almost everything went according to plan. A car that had an accident and blocked the road as we came from her home in the morning almost ate into our precious time. We only lost one hour and had a very colourful day. The cake cutting ceremony crowned the reception party. She made the dancing so enticing.

PAMELA: We had a simple wedding that we planned in two months. The day itself was colourful. All the service providers cooperated except for minor hitches.

Pamela: The worst experience was when our documents and wedding planning records were stolen so we had to begin afresh.

David: Planning everything and raising money to meet the budget was very hectic.

THE HONEYMOON

David: We went to the Coast where we sampled beaches in the South and North Coast.

ADVICE TO COUPLES

David: I am made to understand that marriage is hard work, so each partner should be ready to do their part to make the union enjoyable.

There are challenges since this a union where two grown ups are involved, compromise is highly needed. Start your planning in time, cooperate and consult widely to identify the ideal service provider for your big day.
